No. 19 Spartan Men’s Tennis Falls to DI Toledo and DII Ferris State
TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 19 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Friday, losing to Division I University of Toledo, 7-0, and Division II Ferris State University, 5-4.
The Spartans (2-4 overall) wrap up a busy weekend with two more matches on Saturday, February 18 versus Taylor University (Ind.) at 1:00 p.m. and DePauw University (Ind.) at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will take place in Greencastle, Indiana.
Versus Toledo (6-6), the Spartans lost two-of-three doubles matches to fall behind by a point. Senior Sean Carr (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and junior Kyle Gerber (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) were Case's lone winners with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 versus Bryant Dudzik and Nicholas Wong.
Against Ferris State (2-0), Carr and Gerber were victorious once again over Otto Keresztes and Justin Hermes, but the Spartans trailed 2-1 after doubles play.
The two sides then split the six singles matches with Spartan victories coming via freshman Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) at No. 2, Gerber at No. 3 and freshman Bas Van Lent (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) at No. 4.
Following Saturday's matches, the Spartans play at home for the first time during the spring season versus Allegheny College (Pa.) on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Skating Club.
