Spartan Men’s Tennis Opens Fall at W&L Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team opened its 2011 fall season on day one of the Washington & Lee University Invitational on Saturday, September 10 at the Duchossois Tennis Center.

The Spartans conclude action tomorrow, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Senior Sean Carr (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) advanced to the finals of the "A" bracket after defeating the W&L's Hayden White – the No. 22 singles player in the country.

Junior Kyle Gerber (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) also advanced to the finals of the "B" bracket, while sophomore Eric Klawitter (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hershey) moved to the finals of the "C" bracket.

In "D" bracket competition, both junior Richard Brunsting (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and junior Nicolas Howe (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) posted 2-0 records.

Overall, the Spartans are 12-8 in singles play after one day of competition.

In doubles action, senior captain Rohan Patel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and sophomore John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) advanced to the finals. Spartan tandems combined for a 7-3 record on the day.
