Spartan Men's Tennis Team Enters UAA Championship as #6 Seed
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team is set to compete at the 2011 University Athletic Association Championship Tournament on Friday-Sunday, April 15-17 at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Spartans enter the field as the No. 6 seed and will play No. 5 nationally-ranked Washington University (MO) in their day one opener on Friday. Preview the event with the latest edition of Spartan Video Spotlight.
The Spartans are ranked No. 7 in the Central Region during the last Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls. The UAA Championship is one of the premier Division III tennis tournament in the nation with five of its teams currently ranked in the top 30 in the nation.
Junior Sean Carr (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) is currently ranked No. 17 in the region and has posted a 12-14 overall record competing mostly at No. 1 singles. Freshman John Healey (Columbia, MD/Atholton) is 12-11 competing at both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
In doubles play, Healey and sophomore Nicolas Howe (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) are fourth in the region, while Carr and sophomore Kyle Gerber (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep) are 25th.
The Spartans open the weekend versus Wash. U on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
