Spartan Men Suffer 3-2 Loss at Oberlin

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 loss against Oberlin College on Wednesday night.

The Spartans are now 4-6-1 on the season, while the Yeomen improve to 9-1-1 overall.

The Yeomen were first to get on the scoreboard, in the third minute senior Nick Wertman scored his sixth goal of the season to give Oberlin a 1-0 lead. CWRU responded at the 25:34 mark when senior forward Joshua Prosser scored via an assist from senior midfielder Jacob Grindel to make the score 1-1 heading into the half.

In the second, the Spartans were first to strike the goal. In the 53rd minute of the game, junior forward Alex Keller-Biehl scored off a cross to give him his first goal of the season. Junior defender Jack Rademacher and sophomore midfielder Jacob Phillips were each credited with an assist.

The Yeomen responded with two more goals from Wertman in the 61st minute off of a penalty kick and then the game-winning goal in the 84th minute off of a through ball from sophomore Trenton Bulucea to secure the win.

Oberlin outshot the Spartans 18-14, but CWRU held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Spartans will return to action on Saturday, October 8th when they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to face University Athletic Association opponent Brandeis University. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.
