Spartans Drop Tough Battle 2-1 to No. 17 DePauw

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 non-conference battle against the No. 17 DePauw University Tigers on Sunday afternoon at DiSanto Field.

CWRU is now 2-2-0 overall, while DePauw advances to 2-0-2.

The Tigers were first to find the back of the net. In the 35th minute of play, Zach Hoffman struck from the left and hit the back of the net off of a pass from Julian Gonzalez to give the Tigers a 1-0 edge through the remainder of the first half.

The Spartans tied up the game in the second during the 58th minute of play. Senior midfielder Jacob Grindel struck from the right and got it past the keeper for his first goal of the season. DePauw would then score off of a penalty kick in the 85th minute of play and hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game despite numerous Spartan attacks.

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team will have two road matches this upcoming week as they will travel to play Hiram College on Wednesday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. and a Saturday night game at 7:00 p.m. against Ohio Northern University.
