Men’s Basketball Returns Home to Face Adrian

The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team will return to Horsburgh Gymnasium this weekend, playing host to Adrian College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2nd.

CWRU Spartans
Case Western Reserve will enter Saturday's game with a 1-4 overall record, including a 0-3 mark in home games.  After winning their first game of the season last Saturday 74-69 over Mount Saint Joseph (which received votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top-25), the Spartans suffered an 87-48 setback against Ohio Northern on Sunday.  CWRU is averaging 81.8 points per game on 41.5% shooting from the floor, including 35.0% from long range, while allowing 93.0 points per contest.  Four Spartans are averaging double-figure point totals, including sophomore forward Connor Nally (14.0), freshman guard Antonio Ionadi (13.0), senior forward T.J. Duckett (12.4) and freshman guard Ignas Masiulionis (12.2).  Duckett also leads the team with 7.8 rebounds, while sophomore forward Michael Hollis has contributed 5.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and a team-leading 3.2 assists per game.

Head Coach Todd McGuinness is in his second season at CWRU.  He has a career record of 123-93 (.569 winning percentage), which includes a seven-year stint at Hartwick College, where his teams qualified for the NCAA Championships on four occasions.  McGuinness is assisted by Rudy Kirbus, Kelly Blair, Liz Hornberger, Evan Shang and Aleksandar Zivic.

Adrian Bulldogs
Adrian has won three-straight games and stands at 3-1 overall in 2017-18, including a 2-1 ledger in road contests.  The Bulldogs are coming off a 55-52 win over Capital University in their home-opening win on Wednesday night.  The team averages 74.0 points per game on 49.0% shooting from the floor, including 42.9% from three point range, and has allowed 70.0 points per contest.  Adrian is led by the front court play of sophomore forward Jeremy Kalonji, who averages 16.3 points per game, and senior forward Justin Webster, who has scored 16.0 points per game to go along with a team-best 8.0 rebounds per contest.  Freshman guard Jordan Harris has added 11.5 points per game this season.

Adrian is led by second year Head Coach Kyle Lindsay, who went 7-18 during his first season with the team last year.  He is assisted by Isaac Loechle and Ron Estes.

Matchup History
Saturday's game will be the sixth meeting all-time between the Spartans and the Bulldogs.  The teams split the first two contests, with Adrian winning 80-78 in the initial meeting in 1976-77, and the Spartans picking up picking up a 63-61 win during the 1981-82 campaign.  This weekend's game will also be the fourth time in the last four years that the two squads have faced off, with the Spartans winning in Adrian 67-60 in 2014, the Bulldogs picking up victories of 70-64 in Cleveland in 2015 and 72-64 in Michigan last year.

Sophomore guard Sam Hansen led CWRU in last season's matchup with 17 points on a five-of-seven shooting performance from long range, while T.J. Duckett added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Spartans rank 10th among Division III teams with 48.2 rebounds per game and are 22nd in Division III in three-pointers made (50)…  CWRU has a +5.4 rebound margin per game this season, and have outrebounded their opponents in four of their five games this year… T.J. Duckett is 27th among Division III players in double-doubles… Duckett registered a career-high 34 points during the team's win over Mount Saint Joseph last Saturday… He added 12 rebounds in the game for his second double-double of the season and the 13th of his career… Three different Spartans have notched a double-double this year, including Duckett, Connor Nally and Ignas Masiulionis… Masiulionis and Michael Hollis are tied for the team lead with four blocks apiece this season… Hollis and Antonio Ionadi each have a team-best five steals… Players in their first year on the team have accounted for over half (54.0%) of the team's points this season… Ionadi has led the team in scoring twice, while Nally, Duckett and Masiulionis have each tallied a team-high in points in a game once… Duckett has led the team in rebounding in three of their five games.
