PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Case Western Reserve University senior defensive tackle Dale English (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Holy Name) and sophomore running back Kenny Riordan (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) earned the final 2011 University Athletic Association Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week Awards, respectively, for their roles in Saturday's league title-clinching victory at Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.).
The Spartans (9-1, 3-0 UAA) wrapped up the season with their eighth-straight victory, 38-24, in the 26th Annual Academic Bowl at CMU. Case has won four of the last five UAA Titles and has an overall record of 48-6 during the past five seasons.
English totaled four tackles with two sacks, a fumble recovery and his second career interception with a 43-yard return as the Spartans held the Tartans to just 68 yards rushing -- CMU entered the contest averaging 253.3 yards on the ground.
Riordan rushed for a career-high 108 yards on just 16 carries (6.8 ypc) with two touchdowns. He also recorded a season-best 54-yard TD run in the first quarter.
English finishes his career as a four-time UAA Athlete of the Week. Riordan was a two-time honoree in 2011.
