Spartan Football’s Wade Self and Daniel Vasil Named UAA Athletes of the Week
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Case Western Reserve University junior linebacker Wade Self (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) and senior placekicker Daniel Vasil (Erie, Pa./McDowell) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for their performances in Saturday's 24-21 overtime victory at The College of Wooster.
Self totaled 10 tackles and a sack in addition to forcing a key fumble that set up the Spartans' game-winning drive in overtime. In his first season as a starter, Self is third on the team with 49 tackles, including four for loss, with two forced fumbles.
Vasil was a perfect 3-for-3 on extra point attempts and hit the game-winning, 31-yard field goal. In his last three games, Vasil is 12-for-13 on PATs and 5-of-6 on field goal tries with a career-long 34-yarder two weeks ago versus Hiram College.
The Spartans (6-1 overall) have won five in a row and will open their three-game University Athletic Association schedule this Saturday, October 29, versus rival University of Chicago (Ill.) at 12:00 p.m. Vasil will be one of 17 seniors honored prior to the team's final regular season home game of 2011.
