Former Spartan QB Dan Whalen Signs with Cleveland Gladiators
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League have announced the signing of former Case Western Reserve University quarterback Dan Whalen. The Willoughby, Ohio-native graduated in 2010 as one of the most accomplished players in Spartan program history.
Whalen led the Spartans to 31 consecutive regular season wins, three straight undefeated regular seasons (10-0, 3-0 UAA), three straight University Athletic Association titles and three straight NCAA postseason appearances.
Whalen, who played in 42 collegiate games with 41 starts, ended his career as the Spartans' all-time leader in pass attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns. In his four seasons, he completed 742-of-1,229 passes for 9,720 yards and 87 TDs. He also rushed for 768 yards and 21 TDs.
Whalen was selected as an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American as a senior in 2009. He also was a two-time finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy (Division III Player of the Year) and a three-time UAA Offensive Player of the Year.
He graduated with an all-time record of 34-8 as a starter.
