Case Western Reserve University junior relief pitcher Liam Killingstad was selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, after recording saves in both of his outings during the Spartans' series at New York University last weekend.
Killingstad did not allow any of the seven batters he faced to reach base in his 2.1 innings of work, spanning two appearances in back-to-back games. The left handed pitcher threw two perfect innings in the team's opening game of the series, striking out a pair of batters in a 5-3 CWRU win. The following day, he recorded the final out in a 2-1 victory, striking out the only batter he faced with the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth. NYU had entered the weekend as the top-scoring team in the UAA, and second in DIII with 10.7 runs per game.
Killingstad has made 11 appearances out of the bullpen for the Spartans this season, recording three saves and a 2.11 earned run average, while striking out 17 batters in 21.1 innings of work.
This was the first D3baseball.com Team of the Week honor of Killingstad's career, and he is the first Spartan to be recognized by the organization with the award since Dan Watson claimed the honor of February 29, 2016.
The Spartans won three of their four games against NYU and have claimed nine victories in their last 10 games to improve to 15-12 overall this season, including a 9-3 mark in UAA play. Case Western Reserve will be returning home for a key weekend series against 16th-ranked Washington University (Mo.), starting with a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday, April 14th.
