Third Baseman Chad Mullins Named D3Baseball.com Preseason All-American

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Case Western Reserve University senior third baseman Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale) has been selected as a D3Baseball.com 2011 Preseason All-American, announced the site on Wednesday, January 12.

Mullins, who was tabbed as a third-team selection, batted .445 with five home runs and 50 runs batted-in last season. He led the University Athletic Association in average and hits (69) while also scoring 45 runs. His 69 base-hits and 18 doubles ranked fifth and 10th in Division III, respectively.

Mullins is a two-time first-team All-UAA honoree and has led the Spartans in batting average in each of his three seasons. In 130 career games, he has hit .397 (180-of-453) with 13 home runs, 114 RBI, 45 doubles and 102 runs scored.

His 180 hits are just three shy of tying a CWRU school record and his 114 RBI are 19 shy of the school mark. Mullins already holds career records for doubles and total bases (272). He also ranks in the top five in homers, batting average, on-base percentage (.477), slugging percentage (.600), runs scored and games played (130).

The Spartans open the season in Virginia on February 19-20 versus Averett University (VA) and Guilford College (VA).
