Case Western Reserve University senior T.J. Duckett, a forward on the men’s basketball team, and junior Alexis Amburgey, a guard on the women’s basketball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend.

Duckett was named the Most Valuable Player of the Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament, after leading the Spartans to a pair of wins last weekend.  Duckett averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game over the two contests, shooting 73.7% (14-of-19) from the floor, one-for-one from three point range and nine-of-10 from the free throw line, while adding three blocks.  On Fridaynight against Alfred University, the team captain led all scorers with 22 points on seven-of-nine shooting, adding nine rebounds, two blocks and an assist in a 91-85 victory.  He followed that with a 16-point, 11-rebounds performance in a 106-56 win over Wells College in the tournament’s championship game for his fifth double-double of the season.  Duckett shot seven-of-10 in the game and added one block during the performance.  For the season, Duckett leads all CWRU players with 13.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.  With the two wins, the Spartans improved to 5-5 overall for the 2017-18 campaign.

Amburgey averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds during two games for the Spartans at the Smokey Ballenger Classic last weekend.  Amburgey made six-of-19 shots during the two games, including a blistering five-for-10 from three point range, while adding two assists and two steals.  She came off the bench in an 84-62 loss to Otterbein on Friday, scoring eight points and collecting a team-leading five rebounds over 24 minutes.  She then made her first start of the season on Saturday, scoring a career-high 13 points to lead all CWRU scorers, making four-of-seven shots from long range and adding four rebounds.  Since returning from injury to start the season, Amburgey has averaged 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds over the past three games.  The Spartans are 3-7 overall on the season.

The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.
