Membership & Services

Case Western Reserve University, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, offers free and discounted memberships to the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center and Wyant Athletic and Wellness Center for the university community. While the free memberships are extended to current, full-time Main Campus students, faculty/staff, others are eligible for discounted memberships.

In order to apply for a membership during the academic year, you must come to the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center Issue Desk (B44) to complete a membership application.  Membership Groups A, B, C and D provide members with access to both Veale and the Wyant Athletic and Wellness Center.

*Plan includes cost of an ID card if needed.

**No membership plan includes parking.

Before purchasing a membership, potential recreation card holders should view the hours of both facilities.  Both facilities will have adjusted hours and closures during academic year breaks, such as winter, spring and summer break.

Locker service may be purchased at an additional charge.

Membership Dates

Memberships are available to purchase for either a full year or month by month.  The start date will be the day a form is completed and the end date, either a year or month(s) later.  For example, form is completed on June 15 and the length of membership is 2 months, the membership expires on August 15.

Payment

Accepted methods of payment include: cash or check (or for internal use only, a speedtype – written on payment line).  Checks can be made out to ‘CWRU P.E. and Athletics’ or ‘CWRU’.

Guest Passes

CWRU and REC ID holders may purchase guest passes for one day for the Veale Center only for $5.00 by presenting a current CWRU faculty, staff, student ID or a Recreation ID. The guest must enter the building with the ID holder and remain with him/her at all times. The CWRU host is responsible for his/her guest at all times.

Guest passes may be purchased at the Issue Room (B44) located on the lower level of the Veale Center. Both the ID holder and the guest must be present in order for the transaction to occur. There is no limit to the number of guest passes a CWRU host may purchase in a year, though a host is only allowed to bring two guests at a time. The guest pass is good for only one visit per day.

Children

Children 17 years and under are allowed to use the Veale Center on Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters and on Fridays during the summer months. Guest pass fee is not required for these children during these time periods. The parent or guardian must accompany the child at all times (1 adult per child).

Parents or guardians wishing to utilize recreational facilities with their dependents at times other than those stated above must purchase a guest pass. The parent or guardian must still accompany the child at all times (1 adult per child).

Children 17 and under are only permitted to use the Veale indoor track and courts, racquetball courts and Donnell Pool during posted open swim times. 

Recreational Equipment

Recreational Equipment Check out (Daily Use)

The Issue Room, located on the basement level of the Veale Center, is stocked with recreational equipment that may be checked out by presenting a current CWRU ID card or Recreation card.

Equipment must be returned the same day or a fine will be charged to cover replacement costs. Lost or damaged equipment must be paid for at the replacement cost. (Equipment shall be considered lost if it is not returned within five days.)

Equipment that is available for use includes towels, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, tennis racquets and balls, softball equipment, racquetball racquets and balls, squash racquets and balls, cones, and table tennis paddles and balls.

Overnight or Extended Use (Overnight or Extended Use)

Arrangements can be made at the Issue Room or by calling 216-368-2868, to check out equipment for overnight or extended use. There is a limited quantity of items available for use. Reservations for recreational equipment can be made two weeks in advance of the date the equipment is needed.

Locker and Towel Service

There are a limited number of lockers available for permanent use by the students, faculty and staff. These lockers are assigned by the facility and operations staff. These lockers are available from July 1 through June 30.

Please check postings in the locker rooms for information and details about cleaning out and/or renewing lockers for the end of the school year and the upcoming school year.

All lockers must be vacated on or before June 30.

Items will be kept in lost and found for a minimum of 14 days. After 14 days, all abandoned locker contents will be donated to charity.  Any items left in lockers after June 30 will be held until the first week of the academic year.

There are a few unassigned lockers in the men's general locker room and women's general locker room available for daily use. These lockers must be vacated after each use. Your own padlock must be provided and removed after each use. Locks are not permitted overnight.
